Could Worcestershire get 10% council tax rise?
Available for over a year
County councillors have said it would 'look awful' if they raised taxes above inflation, pledging to try and keep bills down. Residents are being asked their views on a potential council tax rise of up to 10% next year and are being invited to suggest ideas for saving money. The Reform leadership is working on the assumption council tax will rise by 5% - but they want to know how people feel about larger increases, which would require special Government permission. Councillor Rob Wharton is cabinet member for finance and says they want to hear all views. Councillor Adam Kent is the leader of the opposition Conservative group, he tells Tom Edwards the 'real issue is with central Government'. Labour councillors say if the feedback from the public is to 'keep our council tax low', in overwhelming numbers, it could then have major consequences on services. Tom Edwards reports.
