Sexual Abuse ‘Pervasive’ in North Korea

Newsday

Available for over a year

Sexual abuse against women in North Korea is so commonplace and pervasive that few people report it, according to new research from Human Rights Watch. Three paralysed men, who were told they would spend the rest of their lives in a wheelchair, are able to walk again thanks to doctors in Switzerland. An electrical device inserted around the men's spines boosted signals from their brains to their legs. New electronic voting machines are causing controversy in the Democratic republic of Congo where they will be used in long delayed elections now scheduled for December. Many including most opposition parties are worried they could be used to cheat.
