North Korea: Sexual Abuse Under Reported

Newsday

Available for over a year

Sexual abuse against women in North Korea is so commonplace and pervasive that few people report it, according to new research from Human Rights Watch. Three paralysed men, who were told they would spend the rest of their lives in a wheelchair, are able to walk again thanks to doctors in Switzerland. An electrical device inserted around the men's spines boosted signals from their brains to their legs. Prime Minister Imran Khan has attacked hardliners and appealed for calm after the acquittal of a Christian woman convicted of blasphemy eight years ago. In a televised broadcast, Mr Khan said hardliners were "inciting people for their own political gain".
