The Banana Apocalypse?

Business Daily

Available for over a year

A deadly fungus is threatening the world's most popular banana variety - the Cavendish. 'Panama disease' is notoriously hard to contain and could affect around 17% of the world's banana stock. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Kim Gittleson travels to Mozambique to see the devastating effects of the disease and hears from scientists at Stellenbosch University in South Africa who have been studying the phenomenon for the past five years. Plus, Fazil Dusunceli of the FAO tell us what the United Nations is doing to help combat the problem. (Picture: Bananas in Mozambique, Credit: Kim Gittleson)
