Living in Moscow's Shadow

Global Questions

Available for over a year

After President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, other former Soviet republics like Georgia and Moldova are feeling vulnerable. Like Ukraine, both countries want to join Nato and the EU. But both also include small pro-Russian ‘statelets’ - Abhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia, and Transnistria in Moldova - which are similar to the separatist areas of Luhansk and Donetsk in Ukraine. Given what’s happened to Ukraine, should these neighbours learn to live with an expansionist Russia next door, or prepare to defend themselves and risk provoking President Putin into fresh military action? Presented by Zeinab Badawi.
