Like a bird

Imagine what it must be like to feel completely free - completely weightless. This is what Penny Coxon craved.

In Penny's Inside Lives story, she tells us how exhilarating it is to free fall from a great height!

Transcript:

Have you ever wanted to feel free... to glide... to fly?

I have. I wanted to fly like a bird, I wanted to feel the wind in my face and be soaring through the sky. I wanted nothing to stop me....But of course your mum is always right:

" You're not old enough...it's too dangerous...it's too expensive" she said, but that made me want to do it even more.

During our holiday in Austria, I saw the perfect opportunity. After some persuading, a dent in my bank balance, and plenty of reassurance, I was on the edge of a mountain ready to paraglide.

My heart was racing, my stomach was turning, my knees were knocking and I was running off the side of a mountain with a parachute behind me.

What if it fails? What if we crash land? Oh my God, what am I doing?

5...4...3...2...1...run! I did. I ran and ran. And then there was no mountain to run on. I was running in the air. I was so high up, the view was amazing. The wind was in my face and I even controlled the glide.

My cheeks were hurting from the smiling, my nose was like an ice cube from the wind and it felt like I was up there for hours. But really it was half an hour.

I was free. I was flying.
