Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds

The Theatre Royal is one of the oldest and smallest working theatres in the country.

Opened in 1819, it was one of the most elegant and sophisticated playhouses of the time. It has escaped significant alteration and is now one of only three buildings to give a real feel of theatre-going in pre-Victorian Britain.

The building is the only theatre on the National Trust portfolio of properties.
