When the Berlin Wall came crashing down 20 years ago it took with it a system of government in East Germany which had become the focus of growing popular discontent.
But - whether they were in favour or against the changes - everyone who lived in the old German Democratic Republic saw a way of life come to an end on November 9, 1989.
