Radio Ulster Broadcast Appeals are broadcast on the last Sunday of every month and repeated Monday. The Appeal profiles the work of each featured charity and also includes a short story from a volunteer or beneficiary.

Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke offers a wide range of care and support services.
  • ASCERT

    ASCERT is a local charity that offers support to people who have problems with alcohol, substance misuse or their mental health. Last year it supported around 17,000 young people, adults and families across Northern Ireland.
  • Parenting Focus

    Parenting Focus has been providing support to people with parenting roles/responsibilities in Northern Ireland for over 40 years. Its work combines guidance, training programmes and other activities.
  • Glow NI

    Glow NI provides support to women and girls experiencing mental health, self-esteem and confidence challenges. The charity offers a range of different programmes and activities.
  • Children's Heartbeat Trust

    Children’s Heartbeat Trust has been supporting families and young people affected by congenital heart disease for over 40 years. Its Family Support team offers information, advice and other assistance to ‘heart families’ across Northern Ireland.
  • Suicide Down to Zero

    Suicide Down to Zero offers support to people who have been affected by suicide. The charity provides training in suicide prevention skills and offers counselling for people. Development Workers also assist local schools, sports clubs and workplaces in having conversations and identifying what they can do to prevent suicide and the tragic loss it involves.
  • CAUSE

    CAUSE provides practical and emotional support to carers of people with mental health issues. Mental illness can affect anyone and its impacts are also felt by family members and close friends. Carers in these circumstances can feel overwhelmed and that’s where CAUSE can help.
  • NSPCC

    The NSPCC specialises in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. The charity was founded 140 years ago. It offers a range of different services, including the NSPCC Helpline and Childline.
  • Regional Valley Regional Park

    Lagan Valley Regional Park supports a diverse riverside environment.
  • Fighting Words NI

    Fighting Words NI helps children and young people discover the joy and power of writing. It delivers free workshops for school children, teachers, families and community groups. The charity’s volunteer mentors also help young people to develop their confidence and literacy skills and to fulfil their full creative writing potential.
  • MindWise

    MindWise has been helping people affected by mental illness for many years. It offers counselling and expert advice that is tailored to each individual’s needs. The charity also provides guidance and information for families and carers.
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis NI

    Pulmonary Fibrosis is a chronic, life-limiting and progressive lung disease that afffects over 2000 people in Northern Ireland. Symptoms can include a chronic cough, severe breathlessness and fatigue.
  • The Brain Injury Foundation

    The Brain Injury Foundation supports people with different forms of acquired brain injuries, including strokes. It helps people to live their lives with as much independence as possible and offers a range of activity programmes, advice and support.
  • The Playhouse

    The Playhouse is a local community theatre which places a big emphasis on outreach, education and engagement. Its work includes performances, music, arts and dance-based activities.
  • Northern Ireland Hospice

    The Children’s Hospice provides specialist nursing care at home; supported short breaks in Horizon House; end-of life care and family and bereavement support; and an antenatal care service in partnership with the HSC.
  • Assisi Animal Sanctuary

    Assisi has been rescuing, looking after, and rehoming unwanted and stray companion animals for over 25 years. Each animal that comes into the sanctuary receives lots of care and attention - something that Assisi provides for as long as it takes to find them their ‘forever home’.
  • Flourish NI

    Flourish NI provides much-needed support for people affected by trafficking, including advice from case workers, therapeutic group activities and an all-important safe space for people to meet and share their experiences and concerns.
  • Nexus NI

    Nexus offers support to people affected by sexual abuse, including through its counselling service. Counselling is available to everyone, whatever their background both online and at various different locations across Northern Ireland.
  • K9 Search and Rescue

    K9 Search and Rescue is a volunteer-led canine rescue team based in Northern Ireland. The charity was founded in 2017 by Bangor man, Ryan Gray. Since then, K9 Search and Rescue has continued to grow, both in terms of volunteers and the number of dogs that have been trained in search techniques.
  • Lighthouse

    Lighthouse has been supporting individuals and families since 2003. The charity provides a crisis intervention service for people who may be having suicidal thoughts, or are dealing with a situation that’s affecting their ability to keep on top of things. Lighthouse also offers 1-2-1 and peer group support to people who have lost a loved one through suicide.
  • Haemochromatosis UK

    Haemochromatosis is an inherited condition which results in a build-up of iron levels in the body, often over a period of many years. It can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as fatigue, sore joints, weight loss and ‘brain fog’. Haemochromatosis can affect people of any age.
