ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ needs your help

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ‘Display Settings’ trial that we looked at a while back has undergone some changes, and the Future Media and Technology Accessibility Team are looking for your help in assessing them.

The ‘Display Settings’ tool helps users to customise the look of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ home page in order to make it as easy to read as possible. It is primarily aimed at website visitors who have issues reading the content as a result of the default appearance. Someone with dyslexia, for example, may have a problem with the words becoming jumbled up when reading black text on a white background, as is the case with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ front page. With this tool they can choose from a range of text and background colour combinations to prevent this from happening. Visitors that need bigger text, strong contrast or more space between letters and words will also find features there to help them. Even those with no problems might still find some neat things to try. I personally rather like the relaxing powder blue background of ‘comfort 2’.

The gadget’s interface has been re-organised to make it simpler to use. The layout is cleaner and more logically structured. You can choose what it is that you want to try, see what it looks like in the preview pane, and then save the changes. If it all goes horribly wrong, you can return to the default set-up and try it again.

The ‘Display Settings’ tool remains in testing, so changes only effect the front page at the moment. And because it is still in development, the Future Media and Technology Accessibility Team are keen to hear what you think of it. So have a play and send them an email via the link on the 'Display Settings' page. Or leave your comments below.

Most browsers allow me to set a preferred colour scheme for all the websites I visit (not just the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½). Setting up the standard colours was fairly easy, but for other style things it was a bit complicated. I had to create a new style sheet.

May I suggest that you use your good offices to provide some simple instructions so that your visitors with visual problems can set themselves up for a better browsing experience in general (not just on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½). It would be good if you also offered a selection of well designed stylesheets for us to download and use.

This would be a lot more useful than a tool desicated to just your website.
Thanks
Richard

My Iplayer keeps telling me that I don't have XP WHAT? and Windows Media Player WHAT. It worked fine for a few days now...nothing except that message. And yes I have an XP computer and I have the latest Media player. Crap so far.
