The Gunpowder Plot Song

Sing along as we hear about the birth of fireworks and Guy Fawkes' failed gunpowder plot that led to his capture, with this BANGing tune from Horrible Histories!

Horrible Histories Gunpowder Plot song

The Horrible Histories Gunpowder Plot Song takes you right into the smoky, sneaky world of Guy Fawkes and his gang of would-be royal kaboomers! In this catchy, toe-tapping tune, the plotters sing (and dance!) about their brilliantly bonkers plan to blow up King James I and the Houses of Parliament in 1605. They were angry that Catholics weren’t treated fairly, so they decided to make a rather… explosive protest. With barrels of gunpowder hidden under Parliament, Guy Fawkes was ready to light the fuse — but, spoiler alert, things didn’t go quite as planned!

The song mixes gruesome giggles with real history — from Guy getting caught red-handed in the cellar, to his not-so-fun time in the Tower of London. There’s plenty of dark humour, cheeky lyrics, and gory details (the kind that make you say “ewww!” and “cool!” at the same time). This slimy song shows how the failed plot turned into Bonfire Night, when we celebrate with fireworks and bonfires every November 5th. So, the song’s message? Even the biggest bang can backfire!
