鈥淎 Grecian maiden鈥� was how one 19th century critic described Beethoven鈥檚 Fourth Symphony, but no words really do justice to the sparkling humour and pure, irrepressible life-force of this firecracker of a symphony. It鈥檚 a perfect counterpart to Detlev Glanert鈥檚 stunning new Harp Concerto 鈥� inspired by the harp鈥檚 ancient roots and glowing with the sunlight of Ancient Greece.

We鈥檙e always excited to perform the music of this wonderfully communicative German composer, and for this performance, inspired by the virtuosity of 蜜芽传媒 Symphony Orchestra harpist Elizabeth Bass, he鈥檚 given the concerto a complete makeover. To open, there鈥檚 a postcard from Finland: Cecilia Damstr枚m鈥檚 evocation of the beauty of winter doubles as an urgent bulletin from the frontline of the climate crisis.
