Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra with ѿý Philharmonic Orchestra
Experience an unforgettable evening as Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra joins forces with the renowned ѿý Philharmonic Orchestra for a special side-by-side concert at their Studios in MediaCityUK, Salford Quays.
The concert opens with Hammered Out by Mark-Anthony Turnage, a vibrant, high-energy work infused with funk and jazz influences, known for its driving rhythms and bold brass writing. This is followed by Alma’s Songs Without Words by Roxanna Panufnik, a deeply expressive piece inspired by the touching poetry of Alma Mahler, blending lyricism with emotional depth in a haunting orchestral setting.
The programme concludes with Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. This dazzling medley brings the beloved opera to life through rich orchestration and iconic melodies like “Summertime” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” capturing the soul of American music with jazz-inflected flair.
