Concert Information
Conductor Ludovic Morlot joins the orchestra for a live ѿý Radio 3 broadcast and a double serving of Beethoven, with Mozart in between.
Today’s Beethoven pieces share a connection to the Josephstädter Theater in Vienna and its former director, Karl Friedrich Hensler.
The Consecration of the House: Overture, was written late in the composer’s career and commissioned in honour of the reopening of the theatre in 1822, whilst Gratulations Minuet was composed as a surprise for Hensler and premiered the evening before his ‘name-day’.
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 was written when the composer was only 21 years old and is today delivered by young German pianist Elisabeth Brauß. Called "one of the greatest wonders of the world” by Austrian pianist Alfred Brendel, the work is highly regarded by critics.
