Continuing the Shakespeare theme this season, Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Hamlet Overture is the curtain-opener for a concert that also includes Rachmaninov鈥檚 Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (with soloist Stephen Hough) and Prokofiev鈥檚 Third Symphony.

About This Event

In 1919 Prokofiev started work on his opera The Fiery Angel, a touching love story set against the backdrop of demonic possession. He recast much of the opera鈥檚 most impactful music into his Third Symphony. Alexander Vedernikov conducts it here after Stephen Hough plays Rachmaninov鈥檚 devilish and ever-entertaining 鈥楶aganini鈥� Variations, and the final instalment of fellow Russian Tchaikovsky鈥檚 three Shakespeare overtures.
