Star Trek: Generations DVD (1994)

Paramount must have a death wish releasing "Star Trek: Generations" onto DVD with less extras than "Star Trek: First Contact". And the only added feature on that disc was the trailer. Still, the fans won't have too much to complain about if it's a quality transfer they're after.

"Generations" allows the handing over of the movie baton from the increasingly ageing original "Star Trek" crew to the rather fresher "Next Generation" TV series cast. Director David Carson crafts an engaging and enjoyable film, melding the action of the original movies with the rather earnest nature of the 90s TV series.

There are plenty of CGI effects on show here and they look good on the DVD transfer. The only complaint is that the colours are a little lifeless and a fine grain does occasionally creep in.

The 5.1 sound mix offers plenty of kick where needed with the laser battle in chapter seven turning your living room into an intergalactic showdown.

If you enjoyed the film then you'll find plenty to like about the transfer but the lack of extras will not please the fans.
