Members
of an arts and crafts group have surprised themselves by uncovering
hidden artistic talents.
In
some cases, their new-found confidence has led to new hobbies, new
courses and even new careers.
Parents
whose children attend the Cirencester Opportunities Group are able
to join the weekly arts and crafts group which is run at the centre
during term time.
A teacher
from Cirencester College comes in to run the sessions, and a creche
is provided for the children.

During
the classes, members have been able to try their hand at a wide
range of arts and craft skills.
These
have included, amongst others, crackle glazing, card making, silk
painting and even building bird boxes.
Often
members drop into the classes outside sessions to finish off projects.

The benefits have been wide ranging. All members have developed
new hobbies and skills and used these outside the arts and crafts
group. |

Opportunities Group |
Some
members have found that they have a real talent for art - and two
are now teaching others the skills that they have learned. Others
have enjoyed the learning process and have signed up for different
courses.
As
members move on to other things, new parents join the group - and
a wealth of artistic talent is uncovered!
The
group members all encourage each other, and the sessions are very
friendly occasions with a chance to chat and share problems and
concerns.
They
say: "The group members have been very supportive of each other,
raising confidence and self-esteem in all members, but particularly
in encouraging members to move on and do other things.
"The
benefits have been wide ranging. All members have developed new
hobbies and skills and used these outside the arts and crafts group."
