After
a busy and fulfilling career in journalism and politics, Elizabeth
retired with her husband to Winchcombe.
The
couple enjoyed village life and had many interests but when her
husband died after 53 years of marriage Elizabeth felt she was 'floundering
about a bit.'
Joining
a local yoga class has helped her to cope and made her new friends
into the bargain.
"I
had always been interested in yoga and when I heard a class was
opening locally, I went along, feeling rather sheepish," she says.
 We
are a cheerful, friendly class but we work very hard too. I
would recommend it to anyone. |

Initially
there were just ten members, but five years on the class has become
two classes which are always very well supported.
Elizabeth's
interest in yoga dates back over many years and she had made some
progress thanks to the television and books.
But
attending the class has added a new dimension with Elizabeth and
other class members becoming friends as well as having fun during
the sessions.
"We
are a cheerful, friendly class but we work very hard too. It is
very good relaxation. I would recommend it to anyone," she says.
At
83 Elizabeth is the oldest member of her class - but age has never
been an issue and she has always felt encouraged and supported by
her tutor.
"Yoga
is something anyone can do for as long as they feel like it. Our
class has people right across the age range, from their 20s up to
me!"
Elizabeth
is now a great grandmother, with a four-year-old grandson and a
granddaughter aged 14 months.
