Learning
new photography skills has helped a group of youth work students
to develop their team work abilities.
The
young men chose a photography option as part of their wider training
in youth work skills at the Wilderness Centre in Mitcheldean.
Although
they didn't have a huge amount of time set aside for their photography,
the group members pulled together both during the sessions and outside
them to support each other and share their artistic ideas.
Now
they plan to set up and maintain their own dark room at the Wilderness
Centre so that they can pass their new skills on to other groups
of young people.
They
are also hoping to build on their existing training with a view
to gaining further accreditation.
In
the beginning, however, the learning experience seemed rather daunting.
 By
learning together we have been able to share artistic ideas,
as well as the more able participants helping others. This has
enhanced our team spirit greatly. |

The
group members had no previous photography experience and found they
had to learn new ideas very quickly.
But
they discovered that by working together and helping each other
they could make the best use of the time and opportunities available
to them.
They
say: "We have limited time and space for our photography, so people
often became frustrated.
"This
was resolved by acting maturely and becoming organised and tolerant.
"By
learning together we have been able to share artistic ideas, as
well as the more able participants helping others. This has enhanced
our team spirit greatly."
