Cirencester
is home to many young people. It is a big town so you would have
expectations as to what it can offer the younger population.
It
may have shops, restaurants, pubs and a youth club but for young
people I don't think that's enough.
Growing
up and gaining your independence is about going out with friends
and meeting new people but for teenagers and young adults in Cirencester
there is very little or near enough nothing to do unless you are
willing to go further afield.

There
WAS a cinema, which a while ago was voted as one of the worst in
Britain.
Now
even that The Regal closed and is waiting to be demolished to make
way for new houses.
To
teenagers and young adults it was at least 'something to do,' without
those who can't drive having to persuade their parents to
drive them anywhere.
Friday
Night
Spending
a Friday night out in Cirencester does not exactly leave much to
the imagination either.
It
can only mean going out to the pub, out for a meal or to one of
the two clubs - if you are lucky enough to afford it.
It's
not as if there aren't a lot of young people around. Apart from
local residents Cirencester has a world-famous agricultural college
- but the students are lucky, they at least have some entertainment
on their campus.

For
teenagers not old enough to drink Friday night entertainment means
either going to the town's single youth club for a couple of hours
or hanging out in parks drinking under-age.
For
those of us who enjoy things like bowling and the cinema it takes
about 30 minutes to drive to the nearest facility in Swindon.
But
at what cost? The price of petrol these days imakes 'having fun'
a very costly thing.
Supermarkets
Why
is it that we can make so much room for supermarkets and new houses
but not for entertainment?!
I'm
sure the older generation would also get enjoyment from cinemas
and bowling alleys too.
There
are increasing complaints of vandalism in Cirencester. Perhaps there
would be a lot less of it if young people had something better to
occupy their time?
