Headless horsemen, hooded monks, spectral highwaymen - Gloucestershire is haunted by ghosts galore.

In fact it's home to so many phantoms it really should be renamed Ghostlyshire!

Prestbury is so packed with spooks that it's been dubbed Britain's most haunted village. And it's not the only phantom record-breaker in the county.

A 13th century former pub at Wotton-under-Edge is home to such a collection of spirits that it lays claim to be the most haunted place in England.

But there are plenty more places across the county where things go bump in the night - and even the daytime.

Here is our round-up of some of the county's spookiest spots. You can even spend a spinechilling night at some of them - if you dare!

Tell us if you know of a haunted site we haven't listed here.

If YOU have had a close encounter with a Gloucestershire apparition, we want to hear about it! Just click on the link below to tell us your spinetingling tale.
