Eight
year old Lucien Goddard will walk out with the England football
team ahead of their Euro 2004 warm-up game in Manchester on Tuesday
1st June 2004.
The
youngster, who's a pupil at Amberley Parochial School near Nailsworth,
was given the chance to be a mascot by winning a national competition.
Important
roll
It's
not the first time he's taken on such an important roll.
He
was the only offical mascot for Aston Villa in a game against Manchester
United in May 2004.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
and away
Lucien
is a regular supporter of the Midlands-based Premiership club, and
goes to all matches home and away.
For
the England game against Japan at The City of Manchester Stadium,
however, he won't be the only mascot.
There'll
be eleven in total - one for each of the players on the pitch.
Lucien's
father Terry says it's a complete coincidence that his son will
get the chance to be a mascot for the second time in just a few
weeks.
Supporters
Club
"We're
members of the England Supporters Club, which you have to be to
get tickets," he said.
"As
part of your membership you get sent a magazine called Raw, and
they always have competitions in it, with fairly easy questions.
"Lucien
entered and was lucky enough to be drawn out of the hat."
Favourite
player
Lucien's
favourite England player is Darius Vassell - not surprising as he
also plays for his favourite club side Aston Villa.
But
his absolute favourite Aston Villa player won't be turning out for
the game in Manchester.
That's
simply because he doesn't play for England or Japan - it's striker
Juan Pablo Angel and he's a Colombian!
