12-year-old James Trickey from Cheltenham has composed a website specifically for Gloucestershire's weather.

James Trickey

It has numerous forecasts and other kinds of meteorological data, and all the info is provided by the budding Michael Fish.

We asked James (right) to tell us why he has such a passion for weather forecasting, and to explain why he's created an online source of information.

He's what he said:

Meteorologist

"My name is James Trickey, I am 12 years old and I am very interested in the weather. I have been interested in the weather since I was small and I want to be a meteorologist for a job.

"I set up my website so everyone can share this interest and get some useful information out of it, too.

James Trickey

"I have been building the site progressively over 2 months (since 29th February 2005). I do the updates every day, by writing the current conditions from my weather station, editing data from all the sites I know, and writing my own forecasts based upon pressure and data so it is more relevant (and accurate) towards Gloucestershire.

Accurate

"I created my site by copying, pasting and editing forecasts from many sites (10+) and changing the details so it was more accurate for Gloucestershire.

"I then decided it wasn't worth just copying and pasting, and it would be more worthwile to add my own forecasts as well.

James Trickey

"The forecasts made by me are based on the current conditions (e.g. pressure, temperature etc.) and by following trends, also by the identification of cloud types and following some folklore, e.g. a halo around the sun or moon often heralds rain on its way.

Quick reading

"The 'Official Gloscheck Forecast' is the forecast written by me, and the other forecasts are forecasts that have been edited from other sites, but they are for quick reading.

"By having one county to monitor the weather for, the weather forecasts can have more time spent on them and are therefore more accurate."
