Talk to us and each other

I was born in West Bromwich in the Black Country where I lived with my parents, two elder sisters and my Gran in a small council house.
Ìý
My first interest in cooking began when I was a very small child.ÌýThe family had been given a huge box of chocolates for Christmas whichÌýwas stored on the stairs.

Lazy Cook's Summer
The cover of Mo's book 'A Lazy Cook's Summer.'

I spent a lot of time that holiday playing inÌýmy parents bedroom and I would creep down the stairs, select a handful of chocolates and when safely back in the bedroom I would remove the centres and mix them to create new flavours.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating and I ate a lot of chocolates and was in much trouble when the depleted box of chocolates was discovered.
Ìý
At the Secondary Modern School I attended, Domestic Science was the only lesson I enjoyed because it was the only lessonÌýin which I succeeded whereÌýmuch of the class struggled.ÌýÌý

This success filled me with enthusiasm and ambition - the ambition to be a cookery demonstrator.

However, on leaving school at fifteen I was sent to a secretarial college and it was many years before my childhood ambition came to life.

It happened shortly after we moved to the Cotswolds where I set up my first cookery demonstration in our Cotswold kitchen.

The successÌýof the demonstrations opened up many other opportunities and soon I was writing aÌý cookery column and restaurant review for a county magazine, giving talks about my career as a cook and broadcasting.
Ìý
Over the years I have also followed many other interests all of which have kept me out of the kitchen.

However, recipe development and providing tasty meals attractively presented is the only way I know how to cook, but with time against me I had to have a re-think and in so doing my Lazy Cook recipes developed.
