Talk to us and each other

A pioneering project to bring young and old together so they can learn from each other has been cooking up a storm in Fairford - with the help of celebrity chef Robert Rees.

Savour the Flavour is a scheme which gives older people from the town's Darby & Joan Club and Beaumore Place sheltered housing scheme the opportunity to bridge the age gap and break down barriers by meeting and mixing with members of Fairford Youth Club.

During the six-month project which began in September they have been discussing cooking tips, habits and favourite foods and learning more about local produce and food and cookery through history.

The aim has been to encourage dialogue between two generations who have had little contact with each other before, and devise a recipe to celebrate Fairford itself.

One of the high spots was a talk and cookery demonstration by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Gloucestershire's resident chef Robert Rees, who also gave his seal of approval to recipes created by the two groups.

Barbara Piranty of Gloucestershire Rural Community Council, which developed Savour the Flavour with Cotswold Museum Services and Central Cotswolds Youth Service, said: "Both age groups have enjoyed learning more about themselves and those from their community."
