Harold Read's D-Day memories

Having lied about his age when he volunteered, 14414899 private Harold Read, of Longhope (Gloucestershire), was just 16 years old when he landed on a Normandy beach on the evening of the sixth of June 1944.

Following a stint of training in Scotland, his regiment the 1st Oxford and Buckinghamshire was moved to the south coast unaware of what lay ahead for them.
