This story was submitted to the people's War site by a pupil at Esher High School on behalf of Eileen Eddy and has been added to the site with her permission. Eileen fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

Eileen Eddy was 18 when the war started and had to join the Royal Airforce. An eligible batchelor invited her and her friends, as a one off, to go on his air craft. However, Eileen and her friends had to make their own way to the airfield in order to go on the aircraft. They then made their way to where their bikes were parked. Eileen couldn't seem to see hers, all her friends found theirs and went. Eileen realised it had been stolen and she couldn't get to the airfield. Eileen then couldn't go on the aircraft, however, all her friends had gone. Days later there was a man calling 'someone's bike is here, someone's bike is here.' Eileen looked over and to her surprise it was her bike. Eileen unfortuneatly never got a chance like that again. Eileen was very brave during the war and should be honoured.
