I am a history teacher at Esher High School in Surrey. My grandfather was evacuated from Dunkirk in May 1940 and was very lucky to survive, At the time of inputting my grandfather's story on to the web site, people around the country are marking the 60th anniversary of the closing of the Second World War. As part of these commemorations, I am leading an event at my school on Friday 15th July (co-incidentally my late, grandfather's birthday) when we will be joined by 28 local WW2 veterans who will be sharing their wartime experiences with the pupils and helping them to gain an understanding of the impact of the Second World War on their lives and localities today. As part of our event, pupils will be interviewing veterans and recording their wartime memories for the People's War web site.
