Elias Metro Sterio
Elias Sterio was born in 1919 in Swansea Wales. He was just 24 years old, married with a 1 year old daughter (Mary) when he landed on Gold Beach with the 6th battalion Durham Light Infantry.They landed about 11am 6th June 1944.
They moved off the beach to the assembly area at Ver-sur-Mer. At 3pm they moved off through Villiers-le Sec, Esqaiy-sur-Seulles and onto the main Bayeux to Tilly-sur-Seulles road.

The 6th battalion were moving down the main Bayeux - Tilly road to Le Pont de la Guillette. They were ordered off the main road to a lane off on the right leading to "The Bridge". They soon came under fire from farm buildings off to the right.Brave men lost their lives at Le Pont de la Guillette,amongst them Elias Sterio.
Elias Sterio now lies at peace just down the road at Tilly sur Seulles.
Baby Mary is now in her 60`s having had 4 children of her own and with 12 grandchildren .... Elias died at 24 but his family lives on ...........
