My Uncle was a van driver in London. One night he was driving along through the blackout, when he was stopped by a group of frantic soldiers. He was only feet from an unexploded bomb. The soldiers asked why he hadn’t stopped, hadn’t he seen the warning light? He explained that he hadn’t seen anything. They had a look around and found the light hanging under the van. He had obviously driven over it without noticing and it had got caught under the van and carried along.

My Grandfather was in bed one night when the warning went. He was so tired that he refused to go. The house was bombed, and when the family returned from the shelter, they found him still fast asleep, covered in glass.
