At the ripe old age of 4 years my father took me to the jetty at Hythe to take out on an Motor Torpedo Boat made by the British Power Boat Company which was on final trials prior to handing over to the Royal Navy. The trip to sea was magic for a young lad like me.

The real story, however, is what happened on the way to the jetty. Whilst walking through the dockyard with my father we heard the classic sound made my a "V1" doodlebug. As it came overhead the sound stopped! This meant take cover quickly. Fortunately the bomb landed in the water and caused no damage.

Emerging from our 'shelter' we were bemused to note that our shelter had been the entrance to a bulk fuel store.
