I have submitted my great-uncle's story of life as a Rear Gunner, as it's a story of great heroism from someone who just leads an ordinary life, and it encapsulates something of the spirit of that time.

My research interest is the story of the sinking of the SS Ceramic, on which my grandfather was travelling in 1942, when it was torpedoed overnight on 6/7 December by U-515. 655 people lost their lives. There was just one survivor. I have a lot of information on this tragedy, and will gladly share it with anyone who also lost a relative or friend in the incident. I would also like to hear from people who can assist my research. My email address is clare-hardy@btconnect.com
