I grew up in the 1950's and 60's surrounded by people who had stories of WW2 and I became interested in that period of history. My fathers ship was sunk just off the beaches of Normandy on D-day.After his death I found the letter I have reproduced on this site and was keen to share it. Dad was a modest chap and well liked by most people who met him, he considered WW2 was something he had to do but moved on after it was all over. He would discuss it and tell you some of the stories but never felt he had done anything out of the ordinary. I would be interested to hear from anyone with similar interests and in particular anyone with information regarding LSI 241 that landed on the Normany beaches on D-day. I have photographs of the whole crew of that ship and of LSI 245 including one of the skipper (Bill) and Dad with George Dechaine.

I will reply to all that leave a message.

Thanks
