Moldova

64% of the population speak the official language of Moldovan.
Moldovan is considered by many to be the same language as Romanian.
Since independence from the USSR in 1991, figures are unclear, but it is thought that speakers of Russian and Ukrainian each make up 13% of the population, and that most of these live in the east of Moldova.
Other minority languages include Bulgarian and Gagauz, a language closely related to Turkish.
