Julie Mayer

Julie reports from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester radio car Monday to Friday, from 06:00-12:00 for Ben Jackson and hubby Tony Wadsworth. Read on to find out the juicy details...

Julie's flair for 'showbiz' was evident from an early age. She appeared in Pantomime while still at school and went on to work for Leicester Caberet night club where Julie worked as a dancer.

From then on she went fatefully into theatre where she met her match - Tony. Julie was a seamstress making costumes at the National Theatre, London, then onto the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester.

Tony Wadsworth popped in one day to hire a costume for a charity stunt he was organising and came away with more than he bargained for; a kindred spirit, co-presenter and ultimately, a wife!

She has contributed to local and national radio programming and TV appearances include 'Children in Need' and 'The Heat is On' for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 1.

Together with Tony, she has won several awards, ranging from the promotion of science to raising awareness of disabilities.

Her radio assignments have led to her reputation as a bit of a daredevil, as she has partaken in some wild activities - including wing-walking!

During her reign at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester the first time round, she and Tony went to Uganda, where they followed the story of the Leicester charity "Send a Cow".

Julie recorded documentaries for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4 and the World Service whilst Tony did his for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester.
