A large mechanical spider has appeared in Liverpool to bring a spectacular piece of street theatre to the city for five days from 3 to 7 September, 2008.

The identity of the creature had been a closely guarded secret, as are many of the events surrounding the weekend.

Use the map above to follow the spider's progress around Liverpool.

Friday, 5 September

11.30am - A spectacular launch takes place as the spider comes to life.

6pm - The spider begins exploring the city, visiting Salthouse Dock.

8.30pm - The spider continues its exploration by heading to the Cunard Building.

Saturday, 6 September

11.30am - The spider begins the weekend in the city at the Cunard Building.

3.30pm - The creature visits the centre of Liverpool at the Town Hall for a grand party.

4pm - The spider moves to Derby Square and the Victoria Monument to continue the festivities.

4.15pm - At Holy Corner, the intersection of Church Street, Lord Street, Paradise Street and Whitechapel, the spider pauses for a visual event.

6.30pm - 8pm - To musical accompaniment the creature makes its way back to Concourse Tower via Parker Street and Ranelagh Place.

Sunday, 7 September

3pm - The spider prepares for the evening entertainment.

8pm - The spider progresses to the bottom of William Brown Street.

9.30pm - The spider's visit to Liverpool ends in spectacular fashion.
