Charli Maritn
I’m 19 years old and currently studying in York. I was born in Luton, and also lived in Birmingham but have spent most of my life in the great wee town of Ballymoney. I started writing poems, song lyrics and short stories when I was about 9. For me writing is a release; a lot of my work is autobiographical and is my way of communicating.

Purple Ribbons by Charli Martin
|
Purple ribbons
On clothes of grey
The rain reflecting
The mood today
Raindrops running
Down windowpanes
Tears of a nation
Flow again
The days of the bullet
Returning
Anger’s flame
Reburning
Innocent kids
Wear unknowingly
The hand-me-down shirt
Of history
Terrrorists try to divide
Into pigs and cats
A people trying
To get past all that
Men dying
All in vain
As a nation mourns
Once again
