After spending many years living and working abroad as a migrant worker in
countries such as Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Vietnam and Nigeria, Jonathan
admits that "humans make me sad" and leads a nomadic lifestyle on the Scottish
island of Benbecula.
Ìý
A self-confessed loner, Jonathan regards himself as very intelligent. He has
degrees in Social and Applied Sciences, having studied Chemical Engineering at
Edinburgh, Philosophy at Kent, Education at Cambridge and, most recently,
Zoology.
Ìý
In between his studies, Jonathan has spent the best part of his life working as
a teacher. His other jobs have ranged from being a professional psychic, sewer
digging, teaching rifle shooting to delinquents and zoo-keeping (particularly
tigers) to banking, refuge work for the Lumholtz's tree kangaroo, fortune
telling and tarot card reading. He says he even considered becoming a monk,
before admitting that "the monks didn't want me."

Currently cleaning toilets and hotel rooms to support his ornithology (the
study of birds) habit, Jonathan says he is certain that he would thrive on the
island.

Previously divorced, he has recently returned from Croatia, where he fell in
love with a woman he met online whilst setting up a bird sanctuary there.
Ìý
Jonathan says he will not miss a thing whilst on the island; he "cannot wait to
get away."
