Image Publishing

Images can be added to clips, galleries, promotions, highlights, sets and supporting content.

You Will Need

  • An image – JPEG format in a 16:9 aspect ratio (the recommended image size is 1920x1080 pixels with a minimum of 640x360 pixels)
  • A title and short synopsis.

Rights

Always make sure that the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has rights to use the image in perpetuity. This means no grabbing pictures from the internet without permission. The picture has to be either a photo you have taken yourself, a cleared press picture, a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ owned image or an image that has been provided by a press team or plugger with written permission (email is fine) for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ to use the image for any purpose, forever.

Before You Start

Upload the image into the grey box on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ tab. More information on in iBroadcast2.

Navigate to your image in the Media Library

Quick Guide

  1. Find your image in the Media Library - Select Add basic details in the dropdown menu below your image.
  2. Add title and description - Enter a title and short synopsis for your image. Don't enter a medium or long synopsis as they don't display anywhere. Select the image type. In most cases this will be Standard.
  3. Review your image - Your image has now published and you can now see the PID and complete any of the optional functions.

Optional Functions

  • Create URL promotion - You can create a promo using the image.
  • Add to gallery – You can add the image to a gallery either through the media library or by gallery PID. .
  • Add to set - You can add an image to a set (either a season or collection) through the media library or by set PID.
  • Add as clip image - You can add the image to a clip either through the media library or the clip PID.
  • Use as gallery cover image - You can add the image as a gallery cover image either through the media library or by gallery PID.
  • Use as set cover image - You can add the image as a set cover image either through the media library or by set PID.

Common Questions

How do I update the picture of my iPlayer episode?

Email a high-res JPEG (1920x1080 pixels or larger) to iplayerpictureeditors@bbc.co.uk.

When supplying an image be sure to include:

  • The channel/station, programme name, date and PID / URL for the specific episode / programme
  • Confirmation that the image is cleared for use uncredited and in perpetuity

Images of a graphic, disturbing or offensive nature will not be accepted by the iPlayer Picture Editors.
