Seagulls: ‘absolutely beautiful creatures’ or ‘scum of the skies’?
19 June 2019

Day-trips to coastal towns are part of the great British summer. Long walks on the beach, dripping ice-cream cones, lip-smackingly lovely chippies for dinner... delicious!
We humans, however, aren’t the only species delighting in the day-trip dining experience: soaring & screeching over our heads is one of nature’s fiercest and most vicious hunters — the seagull.
Speaking on Sanjeev Kohli’s Big Talk, Comedian Mark Nelson believes we risk being ‘mugged off’ by seagulls this summer. But he decided to put his negative thoughts about ‘the scum of the skies’ aside in order to learn more about seagulls from people in the know.
RSPB Communications Manager Kat Jones and fish-and-chip shop owner Ross Irvin talked to the award-winning comedian about the pros and cons of the common seagull.
