Legendary tenor Placido Domingo makes his Covent Garden debut singing baritone in the title role of Giuseppe Verdi's operatic masterpiece Simon Boccanegra. Antonio Pappano, music director of The Royal Opera, introduces Elijah Moshinsky's classic production.
Set in Renaissance Italy, the opera tells the story of Simon Boccanegra's rise to power and the events of his reign. He is one of Verdi's greatest characters and it is a tale of political intrigue, love and reconciliation.
There is a stunning international cast including Marina Poplavskaya as Amelia, Joseph Calleja as her lover and Ferruccio Furlanetto as the nobleman Fiesco. The Orchestra of The Royal Opera is conducted by Antonio Pappano.
