Eddie Butler explores the story of his home town of Monmouth, finding out that the most surprising historical facts can be right under your nose. This ancient town on the Welsh borders is famous as the birthplace of Henry V and Charles Rolls of Rolls-Royce, but Eddie digs under the surface to unearth the story of ordinary Monmouth folk.
He meets archaeologists who have found medieval pottery under the main street and, in the local museum, a 500-year-old document that reveals clues to the town's woollen industry.
Eddie gets a local blacksmith to show him how nails used to be made and meets a group of volunteers restoring a hidden Victorian garden. From more recent history, there is a surprising wartime story of a parachute factory and coming bang up-to-date, Eddie learns about Monmouthpedia, a unique website dedicated to the history of the town.
