On 3rd July 1938, Sir Nigel Gresley’s blue streamlined ‘Mallard’ broke the world speed record for railway steam engines.
It reached an incredible 126mph - a record which still stands today.
Piers Bishop tells of the record attempt and traces the rivalry between two great railway engineers back in the golden age of steam.
