Jersey Boy
Voices, views, stories, news and chat from Northern Ireland’s rural community, hosted by Nicola Weir. Including essential livestock and weather reports.
Presenter, Nicola Weir, travels to Moneymore to meet up with farmer, Caleb Howard, who decided to sell the family’s Holstein herd and focus on Jerseys – for both milk and meat. A new safety at sea campaign has been launched and Brian Chambers, who is Chief Executive of The Anglo-Northern Ireland Fish Producers Organisation, also tells Nicola about a defibrillators scheme for boats. Romance is in the air with Willy Daly, who is believed to be Ireland’s last remaining traditional matchmaker – think ‘The Quiet Man’ - and Margaret Edgill from County Offaly talks about the importance of diversification to make the most out of your farm. Finally, Nicola is off to Downpatrick to visit Jack Kelly, who over 30 years ago decided to partner with the RSPB Northern Ireland to farm with nature in mind – and it has paid off with the yellowhammer in abundance at his Riverside farm.
