Killing in the Close Part 2

Episode 5 of 6

When two women are stabbed in a domestic attack, a man claims self-defence. But his injured partner has recovered enough to give her account.

After a double stabbing in Worcester that left Wendy Francis dead and her daughter, Stacey Hill, in a critical condition, her partner Damian ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r has been taken into custody. But he’s continuing to claim he acted in self-defence. Stacey has survived, and now she’s recovered enough to speak to police and offer her own account.

Stacey’s description of the family’s day together matches ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r’s up until the couple’s return to their house. But she describes them arguing later and says that she called her mother on seeing that ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r had armed himself with a knife.

A new case opens up in Malvern. Police and ambulance crews are called to a pub on New Year’s Eve after a man is found collapsed on the pavement. Officers are unsure of whether he’s ill or is the victim of an assault. But when they ask questions, people are reluctant to talk.

The man is taken to hospital with a head injury, which doctors say he’s unlikely to survive. It’s up to DCI Tony Garner and his team to find out what happened. As a forensics team examine the scene of the crime, officers visit local premises to retrieve CCTV that might throw light on the events of the night. They find footage that shows the victim being followed out of the pub by another man who knocks him out with a single punch. Meanwhile, there is an update from the hospital: tests on the victim indicate there is no brain activity, and it’s only a matter of time until his life support is turned off. As the police hunt for the suspect continues, there is a huge surprise that could be a major breakthrough in their investigation.

In a new case, a 999 call comes in during the early hours of the morning. Armed officers race to a suburban house where a man is found barricaded in his bathroom, hiding from his son. When the man’s wife is discovered dead from head injuries, the couple’s son is arrested and charged with murder.
