Shopping Spend, Festival Funding & Rent Protection

Holly Hamilton gets answers, rights wrongs and fights for consumers everywhere.

Food shopping now makes up the biggest chunk of basic household spending in Northern Ireland, according to research from the Consumer Council. That’s even more than housing, electricity or transport. That’s a huge shift, and it’s hitting low-income households the hardest. We hear how shoppers in Newry are feeling the pinch and speak to Philippa McKeown-Brown head of food policy at the Consumer Council.
Attending a weekend festival could cost you as much as some package holidays – but there are ways to keep your costs down. Holly speaks to Kat Cereda from Which about budget-friendly festival fun.
If you’re renting your home in Northern Ireland, you might not know that new rules have come into force this year which could stop landlords from hiking your rent unexpectedly or too often. Faith Westwood from Housing Rights explains how the protections work, and what to do if you feel a landlord isn’t honouring them.
