Lopa Kothari curates a selection of roots-based music marking 50 years of independence for Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique.
Lopa Kothari curates a selection of roots-based music marking 50 years of independence for Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. We hear music from Cabo Verde’s beloved Cesária Évora, whose voice brought morna to the world stage, as well as Mozambique’s Fany Pfumo, a pioneering artist whose work championed his country’s sound on the global scene. Plus sounds from África Negra, the iconic band formed just a year before independence in São Tomé and Príncipe and are still touring more than five decades later.
