Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade performed by Orchestre de la Suisse Romande

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade performed by Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe.

This week on Classical Live, we will hear music inspired by the Arts including Webern's Im Sommerwind based on Bruno Wille's poem about the beauty of nature, Janacek's String Quartet No 1 'Kreutzer Sonata' inspired by Leo Tolstoy's dramatic novella, and Rimsky-Korsakov's musical response to 'One Thousand and One Nights', Scheherazade Op. 35, symphonic suite.

Elsewhere, there's chamber music from sold out concerts at the Hay Festival, recorded exclusively for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 in May this year. Today pianist Danny Driver performs Debussy's Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l’air du soir and La fille aux cheveux de lin.
