Benjamin Ree is a Norwegian documentary filmmaker. He is known for Magnus (2016), The Painter and the Thief (2020), and The Remarkable Life of Ibelin (2024), and has been praised for his unconventional storytelling. The Remarkable Life of Ibelin tells the story of Mats Steen, a young man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who found deep friendships and meaning through the online game World of Warcraft. Mats, known as Ibelin Redmoore in the game, kept his real-life condition a secret, fearing it would change how others saw him. His parents believed he lived an isolated life, but after his passing at 25, they discovered his blog and the profound impact he had on his online community.
