Brian Jackson live from Maida Vale and Steve Reich
American jazz musician Brian Jackson joins Cerys for a live in session and composer Steve Reich phones in to discuss his latest double release featuring two major compositions.
Cerys handpicks your eclectic Sunday soundtrack and welcomes American keyboardist, flautist and composer Brian Jackson live from Maida Vale to perform tracks from his forthcoming album, Now More Than Ever.
Set for release this October, the new project revisits and reimagines 17 key tracks from his legendary collaborations with Gil Scott-Heron, blending jazz, soul, hip-hop, and spoken word into a modern tapestry of Black consciousness and musical innovation.
Plus, pioneering composer Steve Reich calls in to talk about his double release of two major compositions: “Jacob’s Ladder” (2023) and “Traveler’s Prayer” (2020), now available as premiere recordings. Steve's innovative use of phasing, repetition, and rhythmic patterns helped define the minimalist music movement and reshaped the landscape of contemporary classical music.
All this alongside a mixed bag of records from Cerys' vintage and classic collection, in addition to her favourite new finds this week.
